When we first arrived in London we were a little overwhelmed and caught off guard by how quickly the city moves. The tube is quick and the people who stuff themselves onto it are tired, grouchy, and hot after quickly making their way from work to the station. You have to be able and willing to move with the crowd or you will be shoved, spun, and lost. Another characteristic of locals as they go from place to place is their boldness to cross busy streets of buses, taxis, speedy bikers & a crazy amount of cars. There are crosswalks to help the process but locals don’t care about those – they just go for it. So, last night we became pros in the tube stations, today we mastered the wandering down & quick crossing of the streets.
We started the day down by the Thames River and found our first international geocache! It was tucked way under some stairs – nothing special but exciting for us all the same.
Another item on our London bucket list was to explore Westminster Abbey. Our friend Jake highly recommended we join a London Walks tour and he was right – it was probably the best way to see the abbey. Our guide Tom was quick witted and full of knowledge about the abbey, those who lay to rest inside it, the ceremonies held there, and was quick to remind everyone that above all else the abbey is a church & a place of worship.
Because the abbey is a church and full of old, delicate pieces of art photography is not allowed in the sanctuary. I wish we could show you how beautiful it is! Guess you all will have to come and see for yourselves.
