The Adventures of the Halstead Fam!

Exploring With A Beefeater & Reaching Paris

This afternoon we found ourselves making our way to the train station to hop a train to Paris, France. But before that we needed to make sure Stead saw a castle. So, we made our way to the Tower of London.

This is Clive, our guide & Yeoman Warder (also known as beefeaters – why? No idea…). He is in his third decade of serving in the Queen’s army & this is his current duty – to share England’s history & protect one of the Queen’s castles.

The tower is full of crazy stories, many of which are about death, keepsakes & collections, and the crown jewels. And there is a lovely view of London Bridge!

When we arrived in Paris we quickly found a special bike station and rented a couple bikes for a couple euros. It is a bike share program that runs all through Paris and it is awesome!

It was a thrill to jump on the bikes and make our way through crazy traffic on unknown streets. In Paris the roads are fast and full of mopeds, motorcycles, cars, and other bikers. I am not sure how to describe it – everyone just does their own thing, zipping and zagging around each other and nobody flinches or swears or shakes their fists. They just honk occasionally and ding their bike bells.

We are happy & settling in after a late picnic in a park close to our tiny hotel. Tomorrow we explore!
